==========================
*edit*
- fixed stretching problem when used at the bottom of the screen
- lots of re-coloring
- start menu themed to match better
- now uses Tahoma 8pt font
- solid colors for taskbar items (I found I cant really use images effectively for that)

Le me know what you think of the changes, esp. the start menu because it's they only stylistic thing I did on this update. the rest of the work was fixes.
============================

This is me doing some work on nitzua's theme "woodwork" which is actually built on top of "Sandwich" by akka.

Links:
nitzua's woodwork theme

akka's sandwich theme

I wanted to use it permanently, but saw that the taskbar and maximize window title still have akka's skin instead of the woodwork look.

I might change a few things and eventually finish the skin or start with a skin that is closer to what works well with this wood look. for now I thought I'd share this with you all because I think it's a really sharp looking skin and I made it "done" enough to be pretty functional. I don't use quicklaunch or "hide inactive icons" - if you don't either I don't think you'll notice much limitation with it.

also check out the Reaper skin "bubinga" and the foobar2000 skin OldStyle by weirdoo - I think they fit right in.

As far as all that moding and porting and whathaveyou - I would say just read whatever rights granted by the other two authors and respect them.

This stuff is cool, but you should think about actually bundling this stuff into a theme or something, so that we can just download and load it up. But I like the stuff, now to figure out how to put it together.

Wow. Absolutely wow. Although... I do have a request-- Can we get the version of the wallpaper you used? I wouldn't know the first thing about altering the version you linked to look like the version in the screencap.

looks pretty good, but I think the start menu and start button could look better. The start button just looks a little strange.. I'd say you may not even need to have anything there, everyone knows where the start button is.. maybe a small something to show that you're on it, making it a bit lighter (like the area where the caption buttons are) and the menu itself would look better (in my opinion) if it were a solid color, a bit off white, like the rest of the menu/3d areas of the windows.

um, the little icon that indicates the start menu is pretty dang faint until you click it. It's kind of suppose to look strange too. I'm going for that steampunky look. maybe I'll put an alt. start menu icon in the next update though. for all you plain perfectionists...

Very well, but could you add a bigger font please (for example Tahoma)? This little letters are little bit to stressfull to the eyes.

looks good, but can you fix it for taskbar on the bottom of screen please. it currently stretches the wood texture across the width of the screen, which looks horrible.

desktop resolution is 1280x1024, so I imagine it'll look even worse at larger resolutions.

it took me a second, but now I see what you're talking about. my poor eyeballs...

yeah next time I do some work on it I'll fix the situation. I'll also update the font to Tahoma.

any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated so I have some ideas and can knock them all out in one sitting... that goes for everyone that wants to suggest something.

actually I'm not sure how to make it not look stretched out. it uses the same background file for the top and bottom position. I think what happens is that the bottom taskbar only uses a predetermined width, ignoring the actual image's width and then stretches it out. I tried making the woodwork image 1280 pixels wide and it still looks stretched out like that.

you probably need to edit the margin settings for the image. that's about the limit of my knowledge of msstyles, heh.
